Gardaí and emergency services responded to a fatal road traffic collision in Kilminchy, Portlaoise, Co Laois, where a five-year-old boy was fatally injured and pronounced dead at the hospital. The female driver of the car involved was unharmed. A technical examination will be conducted on the road, which will remain closed overnight. Additionally, a separate fatal collision involving a quad bike and motorcycle in Co Westmeath resulted in the death of a man in his 20s, with Gardaí appealing for witnesses and any available camera footage from the area.
