The Arakan Army, formed in 2009 with the help of the Kachin Independence Army, has successfully taken control of 13 townships in Arakan, southern Chin State, and Rakhine State, challenging the Myanmar military’s dominance. Led by Commander-in-Chief Twan Mrat Naing, the organization’s success is attributed to its inclusive leadership, strategic planning, and network building efforts. By engaging all communities, establishing training camps, and coordinating operations through nine military commands, the Arakan Army has managed to expand its influence and continue its fight against the military junta in Myanmar.
