Mike McGrew, a retired detective with a family history in police and firefighting work, co-founded 911 At Ease International to provide trauma-informed counseling for first responders in Southern California, who face high rates of mental health issues. Despite the stigma surrounding mental health in the industry, younger generations are more open to seeking help, but challenges remain in breaking down cultural barriers and encouraging open dialogue among firefighters and police officers. Ellen Bradley-Windell, a clinical director, has been working with first responders to address these mental health challenges.
