Fire made a run at celebrity-studded Malibu enclave

In the Serra Retreat area of Malibu, luxury homes including those of celebrities like Patrick Dempsey and Mel Gibson were threatened by the Franklin fire, causing significant damage to some properties, vehicles, and animals. Alec Gellis and Abel Rodgers stayed behind to protect their homes and neighbors by using a hose to soak everything and extinguish spot fires, while firefighters battled the fast-moving blaze. The fire, which started along Malibu Canyon Road, quickly grew to over 2,700 acres due to strong winds, with a minimal number of homes destroyed and efforts to conserve water for firefighting ongoing.
