Authorities confirmed that two U.S. Capitol Police officers were hospitalized following a small electrical fire in the underground trolley system connecting the Rayburn House and U.S. Capitol buildings. The D.C. Fire and EMS Department responded to the incident, which occurred Thursday afternoon and was subsequently extinguished; no passengers were injured. Independence Avenue was temporarily closed but has since reopened, while the cause of the fire remains under investigation. The U.S. Capitol subway system, operated by the Architect of the Capitol, is used to transport lawmakers and officials between government buildings.
