Fifth storm in less than a month bears down on the Philippines

The Philippines issued new weather warnings as Tropical Storm Usagi approached Luzon, following the passage of Typhoon Toraji which caused minimal damage. Despite evacuating 32,000 people before Toraji’s landfall, no substantial flooding occurred. Usagi is expected to strengthen and bring heavy rainfall and strong winds to northern Luzon, with the potential for storm surge inundation. Utility workers are repairing infrastructure damage, and classes have resumed as the country prepares for the possible impact of Tropical Storm Man-yi next week.
