Feds charge Ald. Edward Burke

On Jan. 3, significant events in the Chicago area included the opening of the new McCormick Place in 1971 and the release of Navy Lt. Robert Goodman Jr. in 1984. In 2019, former 14th Ward Ald. Edward Burke was charged with attempted extortion, eventually leading to his conviction on racketeering conspiracy and other counts in 2023, resulting in a two-year prison sentence.
