Over 100 current and former employees of the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) have warned Congress that cuts to the agency under the Trump administration pose a significant risk to worker safety, potentially leading to increased preventable deaths and injuries. In a letter addressed to Congress, they urge action to protect NIOSH, which conducts vital research and training for workplace safety, especially as the administration pushes for heightened economic activity. The letter highlights that over 90% of NIOSH’s staff have received layoff notifications, jeopardizing essential health programs, including those for 9/11 responders.
