A federal judge has temporarily blocked political appointees and special government employees, including those at the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), from accessing sensitive information in the Treasury Department following a lawsuit by 19 state attorneys general. The order prohibits access to personally identifiable and confidential financial data, requiring destruction of any downloaded material and setting a hearing for Feb. 14. The Trump administration previously restricted DOGE access to only two staffers after a separate lawsuit and controversy involving racist social media posts and promises of reinstatement by Elon Musk.
