FBI Investigation Reveals Printers Can Store Sensitive Data
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Federal prosecutors charged IT specialist Aurelio Luis Perez-Lugones with unlawful retention of national defense information after an investigation linked him to reporter Hannah Natanson. The case gained attention when investigators searched Natanson’s home, revealing that Perez-Lugones used a classified intelligence report and attempted to conceal his actions by taking screenshots instead of direct prints. His employer’s advanced printer technology allowed them to view the actual contents of printed materials, leading to his detection. Additional surveillance suggested he was taking notes on classified documents, potentially monitored by video systems.
