Australia’s sustainable fashion initiative, the Mud to Marle project, aims to repurpose low-value sheep locks (from the sheep’s head, legs, and belly) into fine yarn for clothing, reducing waste in the wool industry. Supported by Country Road’s climate fund, this collaboration between Deakin University, Full Circle Fibres, and LoomTex creates eco-friendly fabrics, minimizing the need for synthetic fibers and dyeing processes, ultimately allowing for biodegradable end products. The project showcases Australia’s potential for local textile manufacturing, emphasizing community collaboration and innovation in sustainable practices.
