Gene therapy helps woman recover from severe germ exposure

Eliana Nachem, diagnosed with severe combined immunodeficiency (SCID) at 4 months, faced life-threatening risks due to her immune system’s failure. After participating in a successful gene therapy trial, which restored her immune function, she joined 61 other children in achieving a 95% success rate, offering hope for a less risky alternative to traditional bone marrow transplants.
