Peter Murrell, the former chief executive of the Scottish National Party (SNP) and ex-husband of Nicola Sturgeon, has pleaded guilty to embezzling over £400,000 ($540,000) from the party. His offences, which occurred between August 2010 and October 2022, were revealed following a lengthy investigation into the misuse of donations intended for the Scottish independence campaign. Murrell, who was in charge of the SNP from 2001 to 2023, is set to be sentenced on June 23.
