Pakistan’s former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi have been sentenced to 17 years in prison for illegally retaining and selling valuable state gifts, including jewellery from the Saudi Arabian government, at below market value. The couple denied the accusations, stating that criminal liability was imposed without proof of intent. Khan, a former cricket player, served as Prime Minister from 2018 to 2022, and has been imprisoned since 2023 on corruption charges he claims are politically motivated. Despite protests and criticisms of the ruling, Khan remains incarcerated in Rawalpindi, expressing frustration over the mental toll of isolation.
