Joey Barton has been convicted of six counts of sending grossly offensive communications related to abusive social media posts targeting celebrities, including Jeremy Vine, Lucy Ward, and Eni Aluko. The court heard that Barton referred to Vine as a “bike nonce” and made derogatory comparisons involving Ward and Aluko. Prosecutors argued he crossed the line between free speech and criminal conduct, while Barton claimed his posts were harmless banter. A sentencing hearing will be scheduled in due course.
