EU Sanctions on Russia
The European Union is developing a new sanctions package to intensify pressure on Russian President Vladimir Putin due to the war in Ukraine, as stated by EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen during a summit in Tirana. Despite having already implemented 17 sanction packages, achieving unanimous agreement among the 27 EU member states is becoming increasingly challenging. The new measures may target Nord Stream pipelines, the Russian shadow fleet, and the financial sector, with support from the US deemed crucial for their effectiveness.
