Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent on US-EU Trade Talks
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated that President Trump finds the European Union’s trade offers inadequate and anticipates a proposed 50% tariff on EU goods starting June 1 will prompt better negotiations. Following G7 discussions, Bessent noted that while other countries are negotiating in good faith, the EU’s proposals lack quality, and many EU nations are unaware of the European Commission’s offerings. Additionally, Trump is considering a 25% tariff on iPhones made outside the US to bolster domestic semiconductor manufacturing.
