Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed announced the completion of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), Africa’s largest hydroelectric project, set for official inauguration in September. While Ethiopia views the dam as essential for its energy needs, Egypt and Sudan express concerns about its impact on their water supply, with ongoing tensions and failed negotiations over a three-way agreement.
