ABOARD THE EML SAKALA IN THE BALTIC SEA – The Estonian minehunter EML Sakala and two other navy ships patrol the Baltic Sea following sabotage incidents damaging power and communication cables, suspected to be linked to Russia. The Eagle S oil tanker, part of Russia’s “shadow fleet,” was seized by Finnish authorities for allegedly cutting cables, highlighting the strategic importance of the sea domain. Western nations face a test of resolve in deterring such activities amidst rising tensions and suspicions of Russian involvement in sabotage attacks across Europe.
