The US Department of Justice documents reveal that Jeffrey Epstein enlisted a former Russian official, Sergei Belyakov, with ties to Moscow’s FSB intelligence services to gather information on a woman attempting to blackmail his business associates in 2015. Belyakov provided background on the woman’s alleged “sex and escort” business, suggesting denying her entry to the US could pose a threat. Epstein and Belyakov also collaborated on organizing meetings with prominent figures, including American venture capitalist Peter Thiel and billionaire Thomas Pritzker. Efforts to contact Belyakov for comment were unsuccessful, while Thiel’s foundation did not respond and Pritzker declined to comment through a spokesperson. Epstein also attempted to arrange meetings with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, although there is no evidence of success. Epstein’s connections with intelligence agencies and ties to former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak have long been subject to speculation.
