Universal has unveiled a new trailer for The Odyssey, directed by Christopher Nolan, which showcases the epic story inspired by Homer’s original work. The trailer highlights significant elements such as mythical creatures, political intrigue, and Odysseus’ arduous journey home. Matt Damon stars as Odysseus, with Robert Pattinson portraying Antinous, while Anne Hathaway plays Penelope and Tom Holland takes on the role of Telemachus. The film also features Zendaya as Athena and Charlize Theron as Circe, among a star-studded cast that includes Lupita Nyong’o and Elliot Page. This project marks Nolan’s 13th feature film, which he co-wrote and produced with Emma Thomas. The film is notable for being shot entirely with IMAX cameras and is set to be released in theaters on July 17, coinciding with the launch of Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

Why It Matters

The Odyssey is significant not only as a major cinematic adaptation of a classic literary work but also due to Christopher Nolan’s reputation for delivering visually stunning films. This production will be the first narrative feature entirely filmed with IMAX technology, representing a notable advancement in filmmaking techniques. The anticipation surrounding its release is underscored by Universal’s decision to sell 70mm screening tickets a year in advance, indicating the studio’s confidence in the film’s potential success. The film’s release will likely contribute to ongoing discussions about the evolution of cinematic storytelling and the adaptation of classical narratives for modern audiences.
