Gabriel Tuporo, 28, has been ordered to begin serving a two-year and two-month prison sentence after his appeal was dismissed, following a premeditated attack where he intentionally struck his sister’s long-term abusive partner, Hohepa Waipouri, with his car. Justice Timothy Brewer criticized the sentence as “light” considering the seriousness of the crime, which Tuporo committed on Christmas Eve 2023 after enduring years of witnessing the abuse against his sister. Although he was initially allowed to remain on bail pending the appeal, the court ultimately upheld the sentence.
