Residents of several dozen homes in Ojai were briefly ordered to evacuate or shelter in place after a Volvo XC90 hybrid electric vehicle caught fire, causing a chemical chain reaction that made the temperature rise uncontrollably. Instead of extinguishing the fire, Ventura County firefighters monitored it while it burned out, protecting the surrounding neighborhood. By 1:30 p.m., the smoke had diminished, and residents were allowed to return home, but the scene remained active as drones detected residual heat in the vehicle.

1 dead, 1 wounded after hotel shooting in Chicago’s River North
A shooting at a hotel in Chicago's River North neighborhood left one woman dead and another injured. The 29-year-old victim was found in the hotel lobby with a gunshot wound to her neck and is in good condition at Northwestern Hospital.
