‘Eight skiers die in Austrian avalanches’

At least eight people have been killed in a series of avalanches in Austria, with three Czech skiers killed in the Pusterwald area of the Murtal district and four skiers in the Salzburg Pongau region. The avalanche in central Austria buried seven skiers, resulting in three fatalities, while two others were injured. The current avalanche situation in the region has been deemed serious, prompting rescue efforts involving helicopters, mountain rescue teams, and a crisis intervention team. The avalanche risk level was raised to “level 3” out of five due to heavy snowfall, with winter sports enthusiasts warned about the dangers of wind-drifted snow and unstable snow conditions.
