Eight candidates have filed to run for Calumet Township trustee, including Sherita Smith, Shanita Starks, Tai Adkins, McKenya Dilworth-Smith, Sharon Chambers, Glenn Johnson, Carol Ann Seaton, and Linda Collins Brown. The caucus, prompted by ex-Trustee Kim Robinson’s resignation due to wire fraud charges, will be held on Thursday. Gary Common Council president Tai Adkins and longtime trustee’s office employee Sherita Smith are among the candidates vying for the position, with Adkins emphasizing fiscal responsibility and innovation, while Smith aims to continue existing programs and initiatives.
