Egyptian authorities have refused to release dissident Alaa Abdel Fattah despite completing his five-year sentence for “spreading false news” about police brutality on Facebook. Arrested in 2019, Abdel Fattah’s family, including his sister Mona Seif, urged the UK government to push for his release, but he remains in custody as of Sunday.
