A young Mongrel Mob associate, Kayleb Renata, who was 16 at the time, fatally stabbed Jamaine Wharton at a 21st party in February 2021, mistakenly believing Wharton was a Black Power member due to his black hat. Renata argued that his age should mitigate the life sentence he faces for murder.
