The government of Ecuador is set to launch a military offensive against criminal networks with the support of the United States. Interior Minister John Reimberg announced the upcoming assault, targeting illegal mining and drug trafficking operations. A curfew has been imposed in four provinces to avoid civilian casualties during the operations. President Daniel Noboa has strengthened ties with President Trump, who has urged Latin American leaders to combat criminal networks. Ecuador has seen a rise in gang activity, attributed to economic challenges and its strategic location between major cocaine producers. Noboa’s hardline tactics have been compared to those of other countries facing similar issues.
