The agency reported a quake with a preliminary magnitude of 4.7, centred near Lebanon, New Jersey, or about 45 miles west of New York City and 50 miles north of Philadelphia.

NYC Emergency Management, in an X post, said, “If you are in danger, please dial 911. To report non-emergency issues please call 311. Communicate your status so others know you’re okay. Text messages are more likely to go through when phone lines are busy. Check on your neighbours if safe to do so.”

The earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 km in Chamba district, officials of the meteorological department in Shimla said.
