London is experiencing a surge in e-bike fires, with 165 incidents recorded in 2025 by September, resulting in four fatalities, including 21-year-old Sofia Duarte, who died from a fire caused by a faulty battery. The London Fire Brigade warns that unregulated batteries and chargers are a significant risk, as these fires can spread rapidly and produce toxic fumes.
