Jeremy Kalicum, co-founder of Vancouver’s Drug User Liberation Front (DULF), expressed concern over Health Canada’s lack of urgency regarding the drug crisis, forcing the group to source pure substances from the dark web due to the absence of a licensed supplier. During a court challenge to Canada’s drug laws, he stated that the club initially sought to work with Health Canada to provide pharmaceutical-grade drugs to reduce overdoses but faced regulatory barriers. Kalicum noted that while DULF received funding for drug testing, they financed drug purchases through donations and sold them at cost to members, emphasizing their aim to prevent overdoses. He believes their media exposure contributed to their arrests, feeling that multiple institutions abandoned them amidst a public health emergency.
