Dozens of poisoned hippos wash up dead in park

At least 50 hippos in the Democratic Republic of the Congo have died from anthrax poisoning, confirmed by park officials in Virunga National Park. The park is working to bury the animals to prevent further spread of the disease, which can survive in soil for decades. Conservation efforts in the park have been affected by poaching and violence, but have successfully increased the population of critically endangered mountain gorillas.
