Doomed American Eagle flight was carrying elite figure skaters going home from a training camp

A tragic plane crash involving American Eagle Flight 5342, which collided midair with a U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter and crashed into the Potomac River, claimed the lives of at least 14 elite figure skaters, coaches, and family members returning from a development camp in Wichita, Kansas. Among the victims were Spencer Lane, Jinna Han, coaches Evgenia Shishkova and Vadim Naumov, and two mothers. The skating community, including U.S. Figure Skating, is devastated by the loss, with the tragedy recalling a similar incident in 1961 that had a lasting impact on the sport.
