The US Supreme Court recently ruled against President Donald Trump’s appeal to deploy National Guard troops in Chicago amidst ongoing protests against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Justice Brett Kavanaugh noted that the ruling did not address the President’s authority under the Insurrection Act of 1807, which allows military deployment to enforce laws. Despite Trump’s earlier suggestion of potentially invoking this act, the White House has denied any plans to do so. Local protests continue to demand the withdrawal of ICE and National Guard forces from the city.
