DOJ seeks to dismiss charges against man who burned U.S. flag

Federal prosecutors in Washington, D.C., have moved to drop charges against Jan Carey, who was arrested for burning an American flag outside the White House last year. Carey faced two misdemeanor counts related to fire safety rather than the act of flag burning itself. This incident occurred shortly after President Trump signed an executive order directing the DOJ to investigate flag burning, despite Supreme Court rulings protecting such acts as symbolic speech under the First Amendment.
