DOJ seeks to reinstate Trump’s executive orders on law firms after dropping defense

The Justice Department has requested a federal appeals court to reverse a lower court’s decision that struck down President Trump’s executive orders targeting four major law firms: Perkins Coie, WilmerHale, Jenner & Block, and Susman Godfrey. Initially, the department indicated it would drop its appeals but reversed course, arguing that the orders were within the President’s authority. The lower courts had criticized the orders for unconstitutionally punishing the firms for their legal practices, particularly those related to Trump’s past legal challenges.
