DFAT consular teams deployed to assist stranded Australians in the Middle East

The first of six crisis response teams from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) is being deployed to the Middle East to assist Australians in the region. Foreign Minister Penny Wong emphasized the importance of ensuring the safety of the estimated 115,000 Australians there, particularly the 24,000 in the United Arab Emirates. The government encourages Australians to keep their booked flights while preparing contingency plans for potential chartered repatriation if needed.
