The government of Denmark, historically not a big spender on Washington lobbying, sought a lobbyist with ties to President Trump days before his second term, in response to his interest in acquiring Greenland. Other countries, such as Panama and South Korea, have also hired lobbyists to navigate Trump’s policies, reflecting uncertainty among longtime U.S. allies. Despite concerns about blowback, the Danish Embassy’s efforts to hire a lobbyist highlight the escalating tensions over Greenland’s potential acquisition by the Trump administration.
