Imogen Nunn, a 25-year-old deaf woman, tragically took her own life on New Year’s Day 2023 after struggling with mental health issues since age 13. Despite informing a nurse about her intentions and purchasing lethal chemicals online, mental health services failed to implement adequate safeguarding measures and did not conduct a necessary face-to-face risk assessment. An inquest revealed systemic challenges in providing mental health support for deaf patients, including a shortage of British Sign Language interpreters, prompting the coroner to raise concerns about human rights violations in such circumstances.
