Sean Davis, CEO and co-founder of The Federalist, and comedian Joe Machi are advocating for the permanent adoption of daylight saving time. During a recent episode of “Gutfeld!”, Davis humorously remarked that “mornings are stupid,” highlighting the preference for more afternoon sunlight when people are more active. Machi added that this change would enhance safety and enjoyment for children attending after-school activities, allowing them to be picked up in daylight. In related research, a study from the University of Manchester indicated that exposure to brighter daylight can improve sleep patterns, leading individuals to fall asleep earlier and experience deeper sleep. This study involved over 500 days of data from 89 adults equipped with light sensors and sleep trackers.

Why It Matters

Daylight saving time has been a topic of debate for decades, with various studies suggesting both benefits and drawbacks. Proponents argue that extended daylight in the evenings can boost outdoor activity and reduce energy consumption. Recent studies further indicate that increased daytime light exposure may enhance sleep quality, which is crucial for overall health. The link between natural light and sleep patterns underscores the importance of understanding how environmental factors influence well-being, especially as society continues to adapt to modern lifestyles that often disrupt natural circadian rhythms.
