Data centers could be used as residual power generators as researchers generate 500MWh in a year from a single DC by recycling wasted wind

Researchers from Distance University of Madrid and Mision Critica-Data Center in Colombia are exploring how data centers can generate their own electricity by harnessing airflow from cooling fans, turning waste wind into renewable energy. They used vertical axis wind turbines to capture man-made waste wind, generating more electricity than the facility’s fan consumption and reducing CO2 emissions.
