Electrical safety experts from the charity Electrical Safety First (ESF) have identified thousands of unsafe travel adaptors available on major online marketplaces such as Amazon, eBay, and AliExpress. In tests of 14 different products, all failed to meet safety standards, posing significant risks of electric shock or electrocution. Many of these adaptors, often purchased last minute by travelers, were found to utilize cheap materials and make false safety claims. Among the tested items, six universal adaptors allowed users to potentially come into contact with live electrical components, while all basic adaptors were labeled fire hazards due to design flaws. One adaptor, despite being flagged as an “Amazon’s Choice,” received alarming reviews from customers reporting dangerous malfunctions, including the risk of house fires.
