A man named Esmond Jellyman was sentenced for attempting to strangle his former girlfriend shortly after their seven-year relationship ended.
During the incident, Jellyman wrapped his hands around her neck so tightly that she feared for her life, as noted by Judge Jan Kelly in the Wellington District Court.
Additionally, he disposed of her clothes in the backyard and set them on fire, reflecting his distress over the breakup.
