Australia is set to implement laws mandating streaming platforms to invest a minimum of 10% of their local spending or 7.5% of revenue in Australian content, as announced by the government on Tuesday.
This requirement will affect services like Netflix, Disney+, and Amazon Prime with over one million subscribers, covering drama, documentaries, arts, and educational programs.
Arts Minister Tony Burke and Communications Minister Anika Wells emphasized that this initiative aims to protect acting jobs.
Streaming services have yet to respond to the announcement.
