Summary
Donald Trump has directed the Department of Homeland Security to increase its personnel by at least 20,000 officers to enforce deportation policies and incentivize undocumented immigrants to self-deport, offering funded flights and exit bonuses. The plan, termed “Project Homecoming,” includes enlisting state and local law enforcement to aid in enforcement, despite legal challenges to some deportation methods used by his administration. Trump emphasized severe penalties for individuals who do not leave voluntarily, including imprisonment and financial penalties.
