Three Bulgarian nationals, including Vanya Gaberova, Katrin Ivanova, and Tihomir Ivanchev, were found guilty of spying for Russia in the UK, with plans to target investigative journalists and a US military base in Germany between 2020 and 2023. The group engaged in surveillance activities, discussed kidnapping and killing targets, and used sophisticated spying equipment, with their operations directed by Orlin Roussev, who received instructions from Jan Marsalek, an intermediary for Russian intelligence services. The spy cell also included other members with various professions, such as a beautician, painter and decorator, and financial firm chief technology officer, who were involved in espionage activities under Roussev’s leadership.
