Slovakia backs plan to shoot 350 bears after man killed in attack

Slovakia plans to shoot 350 brown bears, a quarter of the population, following a fatal attack on a man in Central Slovakia. The government has extended a state of emergency allowing bears to be culled in 55 districts, prompting criticism from conservationists and calls for intervention from the European Commission. Despite an increase in encounters, experts argue that the bear population remains stable at around 1,270 animals in the region.
