Former Democratic Republic of Congo President Joseph Kabila has been sentenced to death in absentia for war crimes and treason, linked to his alleged support for the M23 rebel group. Kabila, who ruled for 18 years and went into exile in 2023, denied the charges as arbitrary, while the UN and Western nations accuse Rwanda of backing the M23 amid ongoing conflict in the eastern region.
