Crucial B.C. election recounts won’t start until Sunday afternoon

Elections B.C. has announced that crucial recounts for the Surrey City Centre and Juan De Fuca–Malahat ridings in the B.C. election will begin on Sunday afternoon, with results expected to be posted on the following days. Premier David Eby’s NDP and John Rustad’s B.C. Conservatives were unable to secure a majority in the initial count, with both parties falling short of the required 47 ridings. Additionally, 65,000 uncounted absentee and mail-in ballots will be tallied from Saturday to Monday, up from the previous estimate of 49,000, potentially impacting the final election results.
