Anthrax kills dozens of hippos in Virunga National Park

At least 50 hippos and other large animals have been killed by anthrax poisoning in Africa’s Virunga National Park in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Park officials are working to recover and bury the animals to prevent further spread, but lack access and logistics. The park, known for its biological diversity, has been affected by conflict and efforts to increase hippo populations after declines due to poaching and war.
